Carmela Ben Yishay – multidisciplinary artist, poet, lyrics writer, stage performer, lecturer and educator

Carmela's works are multidisciplinary and include poetic texts, singing, self-composed music, movement and acting. Carmela creates visual poetry which has its own unique characterization.
In her poetry, which is always performed in the manner of artistic reading and by heart, Carmela sees a continuation of the ancient poetry and its strong connection to the biblical and medieval poets. Carmela regards the musical rhythm and the stage performance as a crystallization of her poetic work into one artistic, complex unit.

In her performances the texts, as well as the other artistic materials, reflect yearning for a cultural dialogue around the Mediterranean Sea. The style of the performances leans on ancient oriental folk origins and expresses a deep bond with earth and nature.

The works are written, planned and performed by Carmela Ben Yishay.

In addition, Carmela also performs shows of poetry and chants of the sacred Hebrew poetry – the Hebrew soul poetry – which include a musical variety of melodies and chants from traditional Israeli communities, as well as modern arrangements and stories from Grandfather's home in the old Neve Tzedek neighborhood.

In addition to her books and performances, Carmela holds artists' workshops for individual and creative expression, together with the disciplines of art and drama. This is a result of development and long-time experience with students, women groups and adults.
