Carmela Ben Yishay is a poet, chant writer and multi-disciplinary performer, creating one-man shows that combine singing artistic reading, movement and acting, all based on the personal poems and on the sacred poetry of the ancient chants. In her poetry one can sense a strong affinity to ancient poetry and a tendency towards lyrical style, linkage to the ancient  tradition with their special rhythm, using Mediterranean languages: Hebrew, Arabic and Ladino.
 
Her one-man shows have aroused great interest and curiosity both in Israel and abroad, and her poems were translated into English, Arabic and into other languages.
 
 Carmela holds a bachelor's degree in History of Art and Comparative Literature from Haifa University, and a master's degree in the Art of Drama from Tel Aviv University. She was a lecturer of history of art and drama and an educator in the Wizo high scool of art and the Wizo College of Art and Design in Haifa, and at the Tel Aviv University.
 
Carmela was born in Neve Tzedek, the firs neighborhood in Tel Aviv, A city celebrating it's 100th anniversary this year. Her grandfather's house was a center of folk and traditional music in the neighborhood, and she grew up absorbing the cantoral singing of her uncles, who were cantors and chanters("Hazanum").
 
 
 
Carmela's shows arouse interest both in Israel and abroad. Among other places, they were put up in the Inbal Ethnic Center for Arts located in the Susan Dallal Center in Tel Aviv, in the Confederation House in Jerusalem, in the International Congress of Mediterranean Languages in Be'er Shva University, in the International Festival of Art in Acre (Akko), in the one-man show festival "Teatronetto" in Tel Aviv, and others. Carmela also performed in Łódz, Poland, in Halle and Magdeburg, Germany, and Spain.
